Music

The main service ofthe week is a Sung Eucharist at 1 0:30am on Sunday, following the 1970 Scottish liturgy.

We use a variety of setting for the Ordinary (Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, etc.) according to the season. Settings include Missa de Angelis, Lourdes, and Martin Shaw's Folk Mass, as well as a locally-written setting called Ceol nan Gaidheal (Music ofthe Gaels). In addition, we recently introduced an arrangement of a Russian Orthodox setting, adapted to fit the western liturgy.

Plainsong Propers are sung on a few major festivals, such as Candlemass and Maundy Thursday.

A variety of musical forms are used for singing the Psalm, including Gregorian chant, simple responsorial settings taken from Roman sources, and Scottish metrical psalm tunes.

For other sung items we primarily use the Hymnalfor Scotland (which is simply the English Hymnal with a Scottish supplement), and to a lesser extent Mission Praise, and music from Taize.

We hope to have some examples of the music used at St Margaret's online very soon
