Children

The children who come along to St. Margaret's on a Sunday are encouraged to be very much part of our Mass.

There are young boys who serve at the altar and younger children who participate by being made to feel welcome and who help by taking their turn on rotas for reading lessons and taking up the collection.

We have recently created a special children's corner in our church where children can freely sit and read or draw if they want to and where parents can play with younger children if they become restless.

On Wednesday evenings, for some years, we have run a Fun Club which is attended by some of the children who live in the local community. There are usually about 12 children present and friendly connections are being formed with them and their parents. During the evening of games and activities the children go into church for a time with Fr. Emsley, listening to a story, singing songs or asking questions about the church.

The children performed a nativity scene at the Christingle service on Christmas Eve and had their own children's services at Easter and Harvest. At the Harvest service they brought produce which was raffled and the money given to the Cyrenians, a charity working for the homeless in Aberdeen .

We also offer Fun Afternoons 3 or 4 times a year on Saturdays. At the last one several of the parents stayed and participated which gave an excellent opportunity for ‘church' helpers and those in the local community to get to know one another.

There have also been trips organised for all our children – usually two each year: a visit to the pantomime at Christmas and an outing with picnic in the summer. There have been occasions when our Wednesday children have brought their parents to church and one little boy has chosen to be baptised.
